Soloing Secrets - Albert King
Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with Albert King. I've had a number of requests to feature the legendary Albert King, along with showcasing more blues and blues-rock music and this lesson hits all of that material (and more) - so let's dive in!
The music and examples in this lesson were pulled from three classic Albert King albums - including his legendary Born Under A Bad Sign, along with the albums Lovejoy and I Wanna Get Funky. The material covered here includes Albert's expressive bending/vibrato technique (including his signature index finger bending moves), the legendary "Albert King Box" pentatonic fingering, not to mention licks and sections from solos from classic Albert King songs, such as Born Under A Bad Sign, Crosscut Saw, For The Love Of A Woman, Playing On Me, and much more!
Needless to say, if you're an Albert King fan, a blues or blues-rock player, a player searching for more insight into expressive bending string bending and melodic blues-based phrasing - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Stretch Pentatonic Scales

Hey everyone! Here's another episode of Scales & Tales and yet another Pentatonic-related lesson with 'Stretch Pentatonic Scales.' Hey everyone! Here's another episode of Scales & Tales with 'The Pentatonic Connection.' I recently posted 'The Power Of 5' lesson a few days ago and received a lot of feedback/messages from viewers that let me know it really helped them see how to approach practicing this beyond-common scale differently. So, I wanted to add this lesson hot-on-the-heels of the previous episode, which moves even...

Hey everyone! here's the next episode of Chordplay with Implied Chords - From Blues To Van Halen. I've had the idea for this lesson on the back-burner the entire time I've had the LNL channel, and I'm honestly not sure why it took me so long to create this lesson, as this is an eye-opening and inspiring look at the world of implied and partial chords. Hey everyone! Here's another Just The Tip quick lesson (with no talking) and this one features a new idea I've been playing around with lately that I'm calling "The Stretchy Unison Legato Workout" - which is exactly what it is! This idea revolves around a stretchy unison fingering centered around the 12th position, and as you'll see as it unfolds, we're moving from an implied Esus4 to E major, ...

Hey gang! Just a heads up, but I literally posted this video from a Denny's today, as the power has been out here since 4pm yesterday. I guess you can call me crazy or dedicated, but...I DID IT! I made this episode just before the power went out yesterday, and since that time I've been trying to find a place to upload it - Denny's won! Anyway, enjoy and I'll be back once the power comes back on! \m/ ROCK ON \m/

Admission/Disclaimer: I've been noodling for quite a while and have never put any serious practice into this. But, I've got big hands (I think). 10.25 inches from thumbtip to pinkytip when opened wide. Yet, when I try that combo Dm-two-position scale, I can't believe your pinky just sits up there all natural like!!! My pinky suddenly looks like it belongs to a small hand!!! :)

What I find confusing is relating the names of the altered modes back to the key of C. Why not for example call E Phrygian dominant (which is the 5th mode of the A harmonic minor scale) E mixolydian harmonic or something?. basically slightly differentiating but using the same mode names for both the diatonic major and harmonic minor scales.

I was lucky enough to see them in 1980 at the Summer Blowout L.A. Coliseum. They were the best that day over Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick ,Journey, the Baby's and Russia. Well, maybe not Sabbath but they certainly got most people's attention just straight up and hard rock boogie beats with 3 guitar players. My first concert I was 17. Great times ~

This guy reduced it to the max. But still, every single tone has his room to be heard. He learned me a lot about chord progression on guitar. The root is somewhere, the leading tone of course, and some funny/funky extencion that gives it the flavor. That's Jazz man........sorry for my english

Lovely video! The band has long said that Steve wasn't really a songwriter - short of Wasted and Switch 625 being most notable - but that his stand-alone riffs and contributions to already-existing ideas were massive. I've always wondered exactly which riffs were his, particularly on High N Dry and Pyromania, in contrast to Pete's. There are many that by ear, I would bet money on due to their inversion style and minor/augmented qualites. But the fact is, I also don't know enough about what Pete's songwriting contributions were to make the distinction with full confidence. Is there any particular resource you're aware of that would verify this kinda stuff other than what guys like us with trained ears would simply deduce to in the "that part's got to be Steve" sense?

There are so many great DISCO-FUNK incredible Musicians and guitar players (almost all came from jazz)in this great genre that is a shame that they are not as famous as Nile Rodgers is . I love many styles of music but my favourites are DISCO-FUNK and AORock. Check Change and BBQband with the incredible Davide Romani on bass and Paolo Gianolio on guitar or Ray Parker It's time to party now or Al McKay from Earth Wind and Fire and so on.

Well done David; yet another fantastic lesson. I love his playing - particularly his own funky stuff. I like his work old school funk with Chic, but his more modern sound with Daft Punk is crazy good. I watched a clinic of his (a few years back), and he was talking about how other guitarists try to copy his style but most don’t get it right. His technique, which provides his unique sound is this: (paraphrasing) “I only play 3 strings at any one time. They are not always the same 3, in fact they can be any 3 string combination…” I saw Chic play at the Sydney Opera House in 2017 - one special night. thanks for the lessons David. I look forward to your next episode.
